In-Clinic Diagnostics

When pets are sick and not feeling well, it is important to gather as much information about their health condition as quickly as possible in order to start administering the best treatment right away. For this reason, Smithers Animal Hospital maintains a complete in-clinic diagnostic laboratory equipped with the latest technology that allows us to get results quickly and accurately.

Our in-house array of diagnostic tools enables us to conduct complete blood counts, comprehensive chemistry panels, heartworm and parasite testing as well as testing for tick borne diseases such as Ehrlichia. We also perform progesterone tests, tests for feline leukemia/FIV and urinalysis. We are also equipped with a digital radiology unit and ultrasound technology for further diagnostics. The quick turnaround time of our in-house testing makes it possible for our veterinarian to give you a diagnosis and start treatment on the same day.

Some health conditions may not be obvious during an external examination. For this reason, we conduct in-house diagnostic tests to get an accurate picture of your pet’s overall health. At Smithers Animal Hospital, we recommend annual diagnostic testing so that our veterinarian will have baseline information about your pet. Having a history of test results lets us know if there is a significant change that indicates an underlying condition or disease. Annual tests are performed in-house while certain specialty items are sent to outside lab facilities.

Our team at Smithers Animal Hospital wants to keep your pet healthy and happy for years to come. Call us to schedule your pet’s annual check-up today.
