Surgery
Dr. Smithers at Smithers Animal Hospital performs routine surgical services including spays and neuters for canines and felines, exploratory surgeries, biopsies, excisions of abnormal growths, removal of foreign materials causing obstruction in the digestive tract, and removal of bladder and urethral obstructions to name but a few. We also perform some orthopedic surgeries on an as needed basis.
Our doctor will conduct an evaluation to determine if surgery is the best alternative for your pet’s condition. If surgery is deemed necessary, you can rest assured that we will take the utmost care of your pet and treat it as our own. Since every pet is unique, we complete an assessment prior to surgery so that we can screen for any abnormalities or conditions that may be problematic.
It’s very common for people to be concerned about their pet undergoing anesthesia, especially when their older pet needs a procedure. To ensure your pet’s safety, we will use the information from our evaluations and take into consideration your pet’s species, breed, age, and health to create an anesthetic protocol best suited to your pet.
Once the surgery is complete, your pet will be brought out of anesthesia and our staff will continue to monitor vital signs and pain levels. We will keep your pet on site where our veterinarian can supervise the recovery until your pet is well enough to go home with you. All surgeries are followed up with a post-surgical examination and rehabilitation if needed.
Whether your pet is of the age to be spayed or neutered or needs a different surgical procedure, our veterinarian and staff at Smithers Animal Hospital are here for you and your pet. Our service area includes West Fork, Fayetteville, Winslow, Elkins, and beyond.
